A team from Hertel based at the Drax Power Station near Selby in Yorkshire has completed one million hours of incident-free working.
At the power station, Hertel provides contract maintenance services including access solutions, industrial cleaning, thermal insulation, corrosion protection and asbestos management. The safety achievement also includes work carried out during maintenance shutdowns.
Paudie Somers, Hertel UK Operations Director said: “To reach one million hours without any incident is a significant achievement. As a business, ‘Safety First’ is one of our core values and this is being demonstrated by the way everyone has contributed to creating a safe working environment for themselves, colleagues and others at the site.”
Peter Emery, Production Director at Drax added: “Health and safety is at the very heart of our business and protecting our employees, contractors and visitors is fundamental to our way of working. I am delighted that we are able to celebrate this landmark achievement, which is testament to the excellent working relationship that exists between Drax and Hertel.”
The 180-strong team has worked for three years to reach the one million hour landmark. To mark the achievement, Hertel and the site owner Drax Power Limited have each donated £500 to Cancer Research UK.
The donation marks the memory of a late colleague and recognises the specialist cancer treatment that two colleagues have been receiving while helping to support the many people who are touched by cancer.
