4See Group outlines new HSE charges at commercial property conference

Commercial property specialists were given an overview of the new ‘Fees for Intervention' now being imposed by the Health and Safety Executive at a conference held by the 4See Group, one of the UK's leading health and safety and environmental consultancies, in association with international law firm, Pinsent Masons.

HSE now charge for their time when they see a material breach of the law when carrying out inspections. 4See Risk Management's Lead Consultant, Chris Power, told delegates that it was more important than ever to ensure that staff working on sites are fully aware of the importance of HSE compliance.

Chris commented: "Previously there was no charge for companies when HSE spotted things that needed putting right. Now companies face invoices of £124 an hour from the time the breach is spotted and that can quickly mount up into considerable extra costs."

The conference at Pinsent Masons City of London headquarters, was divided into two key sessions. The morning speakers covered the legal aspects of health and safety, the control of asbestos regulations and safety issues when working at height. After lunch, sessions covered recent developments in environmental, energy and sustainability issues.

Mike Walker, Group Managing Director, of the 4See Group, said: "This was the first time we had held such a conference with colleagues at Pinsent Masons, who have such an excellent reputation in both Health and Safety and Environmental fields. The feedback has been very heartening.”
