IOSH praised by EU-OSHA for health campaign involvement

IOSH’s contribution to a Europe-wide campaign to promote good health and safety for working people of all ages was recognised yesterday at a ceremony in Brussels.

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) presented the Institution with a certificate to acknowledge its efforts to help raise awareness of the agency's ‘Healthy Workplaces for All Ages’ campaign.

It’s estimated that by 2030, workers aged 55–64 are expected to make up 30% or more of the workforce in many European countries.

The campaign aims to highlight the importance of good occupational safety and health (OSH) management throughout people’s working lives.

The ‘Healthy Workplaces Campaign partner event – Exchange of good practices in OSH’, held at the Residence Palace in Brussels yesterday and today, will formally recognise OSH partners  and reward them with a certificate for their involvement.

Partners will also take part in workshops to discuss leadership on OSH, the business case for wellbeing, linking OSH strategy into business strategy, and reporting.

Judith McNulty-Green, Technical Information Manager at IOSH, who represented the Institution at the event commented: “We’re delighted to get recognition from EU-OSHA on this important topic. With working lives getting longer, we need to ensure good occupational safety and health management is in place to help all employees fulfil their potential at work.

“We have been raising awareness of the campaign by delivering presentations at network events and distributing the free resources. The campaign has also been promoted widely through IOSH’s communications channels.

“IOSH has also recently launched the Occupational health management in the workplace guide which aims to help OSH practitioners or other business professionals understand health risks in the workplace and how to manage them.

“By working in collaboration we can create a safer, healthier, more sustainable world of work for everyone.”
